Commissioned painting

October 8, 2014

It’s easier to paint whatever I decide. But I can understand why a painting has to fit in a room. During all history artists have done commissioned work. Whenever I do a commissioned painting I feel a huge responsibility: I really want the experience to be a success for me and for the person who is commissioning the painting.

You can see here an example of the process.

If the house is not too far away, I prefer to go and pay a visit. I take pictures of the room where the collector wish to hang her future painting. Back in the studio, I prepare some sketches. Then I place the sketches in the room picture to give the client an idea of the final result. After her agreement,  I begin painting on canvas. It takes time... It’s really a special experience when the collector sees the painting for the first time! The final step is  hanging the painting in the room. But I usually don’t do it.
